 Recycled Glass Tile
Gilasi recycled glass countertop samples.

Last Friday I stopped by the Green Home Chicago Design Center and met with the owner of the showroom, Karen Kalmek. Green Home Chicago is filled with great looking green products, and Karen has come up with a 10-point classification system to rate all of her products in terms of environmental friendliness and social consciousness. This 10-point checklist (pictured below) is applied to all the products in the showroom, and while most do not meet all the standards, it’s a good reference point to know what the green aspects of the products are.

Checklist for Going Green

I took several photos of the products featured in Green Home Chicago; take a look at them below:

Gilasi Tile
This kitchen vignette features a Gilasi recycled glass countertop and a backsplash made from porcelain tiles that were glazed by a Chicago artist.

Sun flower seed husk cabinet
This SilverWalker cabinet features sunflower-seed-husk door inserts

Recycled Plastic Mat
Made from 50 percent recycled plastic, this floor mat can be recycled if you decide that it has been used to its maximum capacity.

Recycled Hardware
The Masa hardware line from Eleek is available in 100 percent post-consumer recycled aluminum, or 90 percent recycled bronze.

Wood Mosaic
Finally, this mosaic by Flux Studios is made from reclaimed and sustainable lumber.
