Ceramic tiles can be shaped and treated in a variety of ways. You’ll also see a wide array of prices for ceramic tiles, as some are extremely plain, and others are more detailed, like the Art Deco tiles above from Walker Zanger’s Studio Moderne Marquis Plaza collection.
Note: Clay-based ceramic tiles and clay-based porcelain tiles are closely related; the major difference is that porcelain tiles are fired (or baked) at higher temperatures, which makes them denser than ceramic. Both types of tiles can be used on either the floor or the wall. Talc-based ceramic tiles (commonly referred to as ceramic wall tile), are thin and less durable than clay-based ceramics, and cannot be used on the floor. You will not find talc-based porcelain.
