All About Brass

Various Faucet Finishes

Faucets come in a variety of finishes, but most are constructed from brass.

Faucets come in a variety of finishes, but what lies beneath coverings like polished chrome and brushed nickel is usually brass. Faucet manufacturers often say they are in the “brass business,” as most of the faucets available on the market are made from brass. Composed of copper and zinc, brass is often considered the best material for constructing faucets because of its durability and the wide range of finishes it’s available in.

Your other choice when it comes to faucet materials is plastic. Plastic faucets are a little more common in the kitchen than in the bath, but you can still find them for lavatories. Plastic is less expensive than brass and is generally not as durable.
