Toilet Materials

Vitreous China and More

White vitreous china is the most common toilet material.

The vast majority of toilets are made from vitreous china, because of the material’s durability and nonporous surface. White is still the most popular color; however, manufacturers now offer a wide range of colors. Just expect to pay more for non-white toilets.

A few manufacturers sell residential stainless steel toilets. Depending on your tastes, these toilets look either ultra modern or like they belong in a prison cell. Obviously, the residential stainless steel toilets have more panache than what you’d find in penitentiary, but the look isn’t a good fit for traditional-style bathrooms.
